PFW F/W 2012 RTW | Christian Dior
Bill Gaytten took inspiration from the archives for his fall/winter collection. Cinched waists, full/pleated skirts, peplum were prevalent. I also loved some of the ballerina-inspired looks (#4 above) and I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of the gowns on red carpets this coming season. All in all, a lovely, refined and classic collection.
CHRISTIAN DIOR FW 2010
Dior Couture
Dior Spring 2012 Couture - Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week
PFW: Dior S’12
Overall Feel: Dark Barbie
After a tumultuous year for design house Dior, Gaytten’s haute couture collection was a sigh of relief. A true nod to Mr. Dior himself, the collection was ethereal and oozingly feminine. Though a bit less emotional than Galliano’s creations, I appreciated the adherence to technical construction which was shown through sheer fabrics- all layers and underpinnings exposed. Some people may argue that the collection was too “safe” and “irrelevant”, but I think it was a much needed palette cleanser for the house. It’s like Gaytten’s saying “Let’s get back to the basics and then move forward.” And I’m ok with that. I’m confident that he has brought back something réellement Dior that has been missing for a while.
Colors: Smokey Purples, Charred Blacks, True Whites, Matte Silvers
Fabrics: Organza, Chiffon, Tulle
Detailing: Light Beading, Embroidery
Did you know: The phrase “Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity” was embroidered onto several of the skirts and dresses.
Paris Fashion Week Spring 2012 Couture | Christian Dior
Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week kicked off today and Bill Gaytten, interim designer at Christian Dior, presented a pretty (and safe) 1950s-esque collection with silhouettes that paid homage to the early days of the fashion house while combining textures & embellishment that still kept the looks fresh. It was nice to see them go “back to basics” after the less than stellar F/W 2011 Couture collection.
